Leaving Oxford we drive out into the delightful Cotswolds landscape to stop off for lunch at one of the oldest inns in the district. The contrast from the energetic speed of London city life to country pace is complete. We wind along the narrow country lanes through pretty Cotswolds villages and their tiny, charming cottages .
Blenheim Palace is a spectacular pile, seven acres of palace, the largest in England not owned by the Crown, still lived in by the Marlborough family today, and where Sir Winston Churchill was born. We can make a small detour to see his grave and commemoration window in the parish church.
Stroll through Waterperry Gardens to see the classical herbaceous border or remain in Oxford for punting on the River Cherwell.
